Commissioning Me
Illustration
The first stage involves initial discussion of what your requests are & any existing ideas. An approximate quote can be given at this point. As the ideas evolve, I can provide sketches via post or email. Once a design is finalised, a decision can be made (if it hasn‘t already) on the best way to produce the artwork. This can be in the form of either a line drawing, lino-cut or other appropriate medium. Have a browse of my How I Work page to get a feel for these different techniques.
As the design develops, input & discussion on both sides help to direct & move the illustration forward to its best conclusion. As with the design stages, the final artwork can be provided in digital form or as the original for scanning. The original artwork & its copyright will still belong to me, unless another agreement has been made. Material costs will be included in the fee.
Murals & Other
The beginning processes are much the same as commissioning an illustration; discussion of your requirements & any existing ideas either of us may have, followed by a rough quote. I will then be able to develop the ideas until a final design is agreed upon (this will take the form of either a black & white or coloured sketch). At this stage however, this can be used as a template to be scaled up into the mural, mosaic or sign. Appropriate materials will be used depending on the nature of the artwork, as well as its location & surroundings. The rough costs of these materials will be calculated & included in the quote.
